  • 24 Hour Help In emergency contact Miami U Police Dept 529-2222. For 24/7 crisis counseling and rape crisis services, call the Crisis Hotline at the Community Counseling and Crisis Center: 523-4146. The local hospital, McCullough-Hyde Hospital, does have an emergency department to triage mental health emergencies, but it does not have a psychiatrist on staff.
  • Mental Health Services Nearby The closest in-patient psychiatric unit is 45 minutes from campus. For a listing of private psychologists and psychotherapists in Oxford, go to the Student Counseling Service website at http://www.units.muohio.edu/saf/scs/. Note that there are few mental health specialties available in the rural Oxford area. For example, there are no intensive outpatient programs for conditions such as severe anorexia requiring multiple sessions per week. We recommend that you contact our office and consult about your student's mental health needs and whether they can be met in the Oxford area.
  • School Policy for Special Circumstances & Emergencies Miami has an agreement with McCullough Hyde hospital emergency department to provide mental health consultaiton by university staff if requested in event of a student presenting with a mental health emergency. Relevant "gatekeepers" such as univeristy police and residence life staff are trained in recognizing, responding to, and referring students who appear to be experiencing a mental health crisis or emergency.
  • Health/Counseling Center
    • Health Center Contact Student Health at 513-529-3000.
